Welcome To Lily's House...
The houses refer to place or setting for life on Earth. In this series, I will share some real insider stuff
about each house. The science and the geography of the houses is less important than the poetry of
them. I hope to fill your need for a lightening fast comprehension of your own inner thoughts of the
past, when you had questions about the reality you live in. Perhaps you will be inspired to observe
the stage we all play on, that fiction we call the houses of the horoscope.

Welcome to Lily’s house! This is the second in a series of 12 articles about the Astrological houses.
This month, we look at the first house. The reason that the first house is important is because it is
also your ascendant or rising sign. Each one of us has a rising sign, because each of us chose a
particular moment to draw our first breath. The manner of your birth and your outward personality are
shown in your first house, and this is a comment on your destiny matters. After all, personality is
    destiny!
My guides remind me that even if we do not have an official birth time we can determine your
ascendant and therefore your first house by various means, some of which are dialectical and some
are intuitive. Your ascendant is an important key in deciphering why you came to this planet, this
family and these relationships at this time. Every mystery is available to an experienced astrologer
who understands the significance of your birth. That is a good reason to get a chart reading, to
determine what kind of mask you are wearing so that you can take charge of you life and personality.
You are entitled to the understanding of what happens before and during birth. Whatever has
caused you to be the way you are today was shaped by forces involving the ascendant. Knowing that
helps you to decipher out why your family has certain expectations of you. Birth order aside, it seems
we are each born into a family set up and we have a pre arranged role waiting for us at birth. We are
born into a family which has a past present and future. It is a work in progress, and we are given a
role to play in the big picture.
The ascendant has a lot to do with how we look or appear to others. Your family determines how you
will act in public. Just as one family agrees on what is good or bad, all families train their members in
the norms of life. Without this shaping you would be lost indeed.
But what of the soul? Your Sun sign indicates your actual soul, the part of you which is never dying
and always new and reborn. You are riding the soul through many lives, it is your vehicle to take you
through many different experiences, just as your physical body is a vehicle to take you through the
    material world.
The soul wants to do what is real and what is best for you. It comes into conflict with the outward,
conditioned personality symbolized by the first house. The problem of how to express your soul and
respect the role that society and family has shaped for you is a tricky one. Your most important asset
your soul, your joy in life and your individuality. The forces of the world and tradition seem singularly
aligned to block this expression. However, your spiritual path shows a way to harmonize things. If
your soul is starved of expression, you could be a rebellious person.
Another aspect to the first house is when planets are there when you are born. An astrology
consultation can show you many patterns about yourself. The first house expression of say, Mars is
quite different than a Saturn first house. These planets represent archetypes which you seem
compelled to act out, to give life to. Knowing that you are responding to universal and archetypal
forces is half the battle in gaining control over your emotions and personality. In doing so, you are
rewarded by more harmonious family life, and often the career sector picks up light and energy when
you stop acting out family or archetypal roles.
