Libra is a sign that many people say they
can’t understand. There seems to be a
strange contradiction in the sign of Libra
that makes them hard to pin down. Rest
easy, today you will understand the dove of
peace, and understand the savage
nature hidden in our gentle autumn born.
Libra is often depicted as a scale.
Obviously, there is a Goddess image
associated
with the sign. This is none other than the
famous Justice symbol. The lineage of
Librans is of aesthetics and rule of law.
Venus herself governs the sign, and so
there
is a feminine cast to the people born in
September and October. The confusion
comes in where the symbolism crosses
over. The element of Libra is Air, and the
polarity is masculine/intellectual. Yet, most
Libras have dimples, and are delicious.
This seems more feminine. They use
attraction, which is a Goddess trait. Libra
men
have a grace in their masculinity that most
women appreciate. Libra women are often
fiercely focused on being the best woman
there, and that is hard to beat. The dove
has a beak and a passionate beating heart
under the smooth exterior.
Librans have refined preferences.
Remember the dimples? Venus gives the
charm,
tact and taste that makes them famous as
hosts and hostesses, judges, museum
curators, art directors, clothing designers,
etc. The list is endless of the occupations
where you will find Libras lending an
opinion as to the appropriateness of a
certain
action, opinion or choice.
All this is because Libra truly believes in
the social world which we create together.
The Libra impulse is to create civilizations.
The first building block of civilization is
cooperation. Don't ever make the mistake
of thinking that people and things want to
be civilized. It seems that we would like to
be free animals, running and rutting with
no restraint of our animal natures. That is
where the Goddess, in the form of Libra
people, steps in. She becomes a Lion
tamer. The image that comes up is the Tarot
trump card called Strength. This card shows
a graceful Lady effortlessly opening the
mouth of a lion. He, the Lion, represents
brute strength, and She, the Lady,
represents control of the natural force of
the Lion, with no disrespect to either party.
This is true Justice, and it is a win-win
situation. Divine Justice is truly appropriate,
and She needs no blindfold. Human justice
has to be depicted as a blindfolded
figure. This shows the limitations of our
justice system. It is not perfect as in Divine
Justice, but it is the only system we have,
so we make it work.
What does this have to do with our Libra
brothers and sisters, born in Sept and
October? Their sign makes them want to
act instinctively as a judge and as a
FILTER, to remove roughness and to refine
everything that they touch. Each and
every time a Libra does this reflexive
energy movement, they put a strain on their
kidneys! Yup, there are health
consequences if you worry overmuch
about what
others are doing. A Libra can and often
does deplete their own energy by trying to
make too many allowances and
adjustments for others.
I have been doing readings for over 18
years now. Almost every Libra I talk to has
this trait, and it weakens the kidneys and
messes up their beautiful skin.
I think this is a good place to talk about what
our society sees as strength and
weakness. Our shared beliefs have labeled
the yielding quality of Libras have as a
“sign of weakness.” To the strong goes the
victory, as they say. Libras have an
abundance of sharing and allowing in their
relationships. They have the urge to do
things with people; their partner is number
one to them, and they try to include all
their loved ones, friends and family, in their
social world. Is this weakness, to share
and to be willing to modify your own plans
to include the opportunity for social love?
Is it strength to be selfish? We all need to
ask ourselves the hard questions which
will reveal our level of co-dependency.
Certainly, the traits Libra holds dear can look
like a set of “don’ts” from your local Co-
Dependents Anonymous chapter!
Libras are beautiful because the Goddess
gives them the gift of beauty. Even if they
are not “perfect” in the face, they have an
inner beauty that is very obvious. The way
you can see this beauty is to look at the
crowd of people around the Libra, and see
how they attract and nourish others with
their personality and charm. Often times it is
the Libra who remembers to send a card, or
place a call to make someone feel
better. They fulfill a very important function
for society, in that they support the
reality of the agreed upon constructs of
civility.
This year, Libras have to stand aside. They
are witnessing the Jupiter Saturn
Square, an aspect which affects Leos,
Scorpios and Aquarians the most directly.
The fighting and strife and uncertainty
about finances that this aspect brings can
seem vexing and alarming to some.
However, the very strife and disagreements
we
get involved with bring out one of Libra’s
best traits, that of a mediator or counselor.
Helping both sides see a way to Justice is
the highest calling the Goddesses children
can seek.
So how about showing some appreciation
for your Libra friends and family? A gift of
a flower, a simple phone call or a card
would give most of the autumn born a
bigger
lift than you think.
